Meet Linda &nbsp;
Linda: ‘Eid reminds me of celebrating with my family when I was living in Lebanon. We’d wake up around 5am, turn on the TV for Eid prayers and visit the cemetery to remember those who are no longer with us. Then we’d return home to sleep and have a little breakfast before going to my mother’s family home. My mum has five sisters and six brothers so there were always a lot of people there. Her mum, my grandmother, was an amazing cook and she would make delicious food for Eid. This Lebanese chicken and rice dish would always be on the table. You don’t have to just use cashews. I like to add pine nuts and almonds too.ʼ&nbsp;

Meet Nadia Nabil
Nadia: ‘Ramadan is a time of reflection, prayer and fasting but it’s also a time for community, family and being together. I love to cook and at the end of Ramadan we celebrate Eid. This is a day to celebrate breaking the fast and so we make special sharing dishes to enjoy together. My husband and I celebrate Eid as a family. We have two children: my son, Adam, is 12 and my daughter, Lamiaa, is 24. She is married and lives in London so she and her husband will join us.
It’s traditional for us to buy presents for each other. I will buy for my mother, often clothes or perfume, and my daughter will buy something for me. I’m from Casablanca in Morocco so we cook traditional recipes from home. There are many sweet and savoury dishes that we will make for Eid, Tfaya is one of our favourites. Beef is cooked in a rich tomato sauce with chickpeas served with couscous and topped with tfaya, a sauce which is like spiced caramelised onions. The dish is similar to a tagine and you can also add boiled eggs on top, too.ʼ

Meet Azir Razzak
Azir: ‘My family has Pakistani roots, but we cook food from all over the world. For Eid we make everything from Haleem, which is a slow-cooked dish of lentils and lamb, to sweet things like a Victoria sandwich. Nuts feature quite a lot in sweet dishes so I’m sharing our recipe for walnut and pistachio baklava, which is great for feeding lots of people.
Eid is usually a big family event for us and we go to my parents or my in-laws home where there’s always lots of food. After Eid prayers in the morning, there’ll be a big community get together with a little bit of food, but then people tend to go home to rest or get presents and then join their friends and families later for more feasting and celebrating.
We tend to have anything from 20 to 40 people throughout the day, family and extended family. There doesn’t have to be an invitation, everyone is always welcome.ʼ&nbsp;
