What do you get when you combine a large marquee, a bunch of ovens, two British comedians and some beautiful orchestral music? Why, it's the Great British Bake Off, of course!

The most British programme on TV is back for its tenth series, and we couldn't be more excited.

As the clock ticks down to the first episode's airing on Channel 4 on Tuesday 27 August, we've been thinking of all the things we love most about Bake Off. From the iconic Hollywood handshake to Noel's wacky outfits, here's everything we can't wait to see on Bake Off this year.

Briony's takeover

Not only do we get a whole new series of Bake Off, but we'll be offering added coverage on Asda's Instagram page, too! One of last year's contestants, Briony Williams, will be taking over our Instagram account during each live show to offer her own baking tips and tricks.

Paul's handshake

You know it's an outstanding bake when it earns its baker the famous handshake from steely-eyed judge Paul Hollywood.

The Liverpudlian master baker is known for his high standards, and when a bake is technically perfect and bang on with its flavours, he'll bring out his highest form of praise: the handshake. It's every baker's ultimate goal, and we can't wait to see who gets the first one.

Noel's wacky outfits

Bright colours, funky patterns and all kinds of sideburn lengths, we can't wait to see what Noel is sporting week to week.

And don't get us started on Prue's necklace and glasses combinations. Iconic.

challenging bakes

From Tudor Week to Vegan Week, the contestants have had curveball challenges covering everything from meat pies and chocolate lava pots to a 'Cumberland rum nicky' in the past. What weekly themes will judges Prue and Paul have up their floury sleeves this year? And what technical challenges will get the bakers hot under the collar?

The tense music

When the pressure's on and time's running out, the tension in the tent can become too much to bear. Even minor mishaps like overwhipping cream can feel like the end of the world for some bakers.

And we're taken on the whole emotional rollercoaster with them thanks to the dramatic music. When that string section starts to speed up over the tense opening on an oven - Is it too soon? Will it be burnt? Who needs Game of Thrones when you have the drama of Bake Off?

The lovable rogues

The British public love an underdog, and the Bake Off is no different. We can't wait to see who will capture the hearts of the audience this year.

In the past, it's been 'All About that Bass'-dancing Flo Atkins from Merseyside, series seven's semi-retired Val and her chilli-spiced Yorkshire Puddings, and chilled out banker Selasi, who might just be the most unfased, zen baker the tent has ever seen. Who will this season's standout characters be?

Sandi and Noel's merry banter

When Bake Off migrated from BBC to Channel 4, viewers were distraught at the idea of the show without its iconic judge Mary Berry and presenters Mel and Sue.

Two series on, and although current presenters Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding might have a different dynamic to their predecessors, Noel's wacky quips and Sandi's quick wit are sure to have us all chuckling throughout the season.

a bake's collapse

Bake Off's judges are big fans of making the bakers go above and beyond to create the most jaw-dropping showstoppers possible. Almost always, this involves a 3D bake of some kind, usually featuring a tower.

And, as every Bake Off fan knows, anything that involves construction or a tower almost definitely always results in a collapse or two.

Whose showstoppers will fall victim to gravity? Only time will tell…

The team spirit

This might be a competition by nature, but the bakers aren't there to talk down to each other or battle it out with tactics and trash talk. In fact, most bakers become great friends and stay in touch after the end of the show. We told you this wasn't a regular gameshow…

How invested we get

Not only do the bakers become great friends, but we also feel like we really get to know them. So when Sandi inevitably gets a bit teary while announcing who's leaving at the end of the episode, we can feel ourselves starting to well up, too. We're all in this together!
