These Halloween jack-o-lantern ideas don't involve any sharp knives - perfect for getting the whole family involved

Everyone knows that a pumpkin on the doorstep is a sure sign that someone loves Halloween... But if you've got little kids or simply don't fancy covering your kitchen in pumpkin mush, carving a pumpkin might not the most feasible idea.We've come up with four spooky and creative pumpkin designs that don't require any carving - just painting and some crafts - so you can celebrate Halloween without the effort of carving. If more than one coat is needed, allow to dry between coats.3 Clean the brush; paint the stalk and the spiders gold.4 Starting at the base of the pumpkin, pin the end of the wool in place. Wind it around the pumpkin vertically, so it sits in each of the grooves; secure with pins if needed.5 Wrap more wool around the pumpkin for a web effect, pinning in place when you change direction.6 Glue on the gold spiders for a glittery, creepy finish.<img alt="no_carve_pumpkin_spiderweb__square" class="ci-image ci-square" src="https://ui3.assets-asda.com/dm/no_carve_pumpkin_spiderweb__square_GL?scl=1"><h2>Sequin stripes</h2>You will need...<ul><li>Paintbrush</li><li>White acrylic paint</li><li>PVA glue</li><li>Gold glitter (or metallic gold paint)</li><li>Black paint</li><li>Black sequins</li></ul> 1 Wipe down the pumpkin then paint it white all over, as before.2 Mix equal amounts of PVA glue and glitter, then paint onto the stalk with a clean brush. Dab on more gold glitter to cover, pressing into place in a thick layer. (Alternatively, paint the stalk metallic gold.)3 Using the natural lines on the pumpkin as a guide, paint every other segment with the black paint &ndash; allow to dry between coats if you need more than one for a deep black colour. Allow to dry completely.4 Paint each black segment with PVA glue (it will dry clear) then sprinkle handfuls of the sequins over it. Don&rsquo;t worry about being too precise as any overlap will add to the sparkly cascading effect. Allow the glue to dry, then add to your display.<img alt="no_carve_sequin_pumpkin__square" class="ci-image ci-square" src="https://ui3.assets-asda.com/dm/no_carve_sequin_pumpkin__square_GL?scl=1"><h2>Let's go batty</h2>You will need...<ul><li>Paintbrush</li><li>White paint</li><li><a href="http://asda.gl/pumpkindownload" target="_blank">Bat template</a></li><li>Scissrs</li><li>Thin black black</li><li>Pencil</li><li>PVA glue</li></ul> 1 Wipe down and dry the pumpkin, then paint it white all over, as before.2 Meanwhile, print out the bat template on plain paper and cut it out carefully.3 Place the template on the black card and draw around it with the pencil. Repeat until you have about 20 black bat shapes, then cut them out.4 Fold the wings so they stick up at a slight angle on each side, then arrange the bats on the front of the pumpkin in a group, sticking them in place with dabs of PVA glue. Allow to dry between coats, then dry completely.3 Meanwhile, print out the ‘BOO!&rsquo; template and cut out the individual letters. Place one at a time onto the front, shiny side of the sticky-backed plastic and cut out to create stencils.4 Peel the backing off the ‘B&rsquo; and stick it on the top half of the pumpkin. Smooth down to make sure it&rsquo;s firmly stuck in place and moulded to the curves, with no gaps. Repeat with the remaining letters.5 Pour white paint on an old plate and dip the sponge in it. Starting with the stalk, dab it over the top half of the pumpkin, working down to just below the letters.
