Hot cross bun bread and butter pudding

If you don’t have Hot Cross Buns, use any bread, brioche or even dry cake. And swap the raisins for  fruit, berries or even a ripe banana.

Ingredients

25g unsalted butter

4 Asda Hot Cross Buns

30g granulated sugar, 1tsp reserved

320ml semi-skimmed milk

2 Smart Price Eggs

½tsp Asda Vanilla Natural Flavouring

½tsp ground nutmeg

400g can Asda 30% Less Fat Custard

Method

1
Preheat the oven to 180C/160C Fan/Gas 4. Grease an ovenproof 20cm square pie dish with a little of the butter.
2
Slice each hot cross bun horizontally into 3 and spread with the rest of the butter. Arrange the slices in the dish, sprinkling them with sugar as you go. Use the slices with the crosses to decorate the top.
3
Lightly beat the milk, eggs, vanilla and nutmeg. Pour into the dish and press down the bun slices gently so they soak up the liquid. Sprinkle with the reserved sugar. Set aside for 20 mins.
4
Bake for 30-35 mins until the pudding custard is lightly set. Heat the can of custard and serve with the warm pudding.
