Ingredients

4 Grower’s Selection Granny Smith Apples

300g Demerara sugar

3tbsp Great to Bake Golden Syrup

1/2 tsp cider vinegar

Chopped nuts, to decorate (optional)

Method

1
Put the apples in a sieve over the sink; pour over a kettle-full of boiling water to remove the wax. Dry with a tea towel. Remove any stalks and insert wooden sticks or skewers. Put on a baking tray, lined with baking parchment.
2
Heat a large pan over a high heat. When it begins to smoke, add the sugar, syrup and vinegar; reduce to a low-medium heat and swirl the pan to melt the sugar evenly and make a toffee.
3
Heat for 6-10 mins until it reaches 150C (or drop 1tsp toffee in cold water – if it hardens, it’s ready).
4
Dip the apples into the toffee until evenly coated then dip into the nuts, if you like. Cool until hard.
