Ingredients

Asda Large British Whole Frozen Turkey (typically 5.3kg), thawed, giblets removed from cavity

3 onions, halved

6 sprigs thyme

2 bulbs garlic, halved, 1 clove reserved

1 lemon, halved

3tbsp rapeseed oil

3tbsp maple syrup

2tbsp smoked paprika

Fresh herbs and cranberries, to garnish (optional)

Side dishes of your choice, to serve

Method

1
Preheat the oven to 190C/170C Fan/Gas 5.
2
Put the bird in a roasting tin with the onions, thyme, garlic and lemon halves.
3
Rub the turkey with 2tbsp of the oil; loosely cover with foil. Roast for the calculated time (see top turkey tip above), basting with the cooking juices.
4
Meanwhile, whisk the remaining oil with the syrup, paprika and the reserved garlic, crushed
5
About 30 mins before the end of the cooking time, remove the foil from the bird and brush all over with the maple syrup glaze.
6
At the end of the roasting time, test the bird is cooked through (thermometer must read 75C or above). If not done, roast for another 15 mins and check again.
7
When the turkey is done, let it rest, covered, for 30 mins. Put on a platter and garnish with the herbs, cranberries and contents of the roasting tin. Serve with the side dishes.
