Get free and immediate care for common conditions without a GP visit
When your little one is feeling poorly, it’s only natural to worry – especially if you can’t see a doctor straight away. But good news: Asda Pharmacies in England can now prescribe medicine (including antibiotics where appropriate) for certain common conditions in children. No need to wait for a GP appointment!
This free service is available for children over the age of 1. For younger babies, our pharmacists can recommend over-the-counter options and help you decide if a GP visit might be needed. We’re always here to help, no matter your child’s age.
We can now prescribe medication for children over 1 year old for the following conditions:
Earache (Acute Otitis Media)
If your child is tugging at their ear, feeling irritable, or having trouble feeding, they might have an ear infection. Earaches are common in young children and often resolve on their own, but if the pain persists or they’re showing other signs of discomfort, it’s a good idea to get it checked. Our pharmacists can look inside your child’s ear, assess their eardrum, give you advice and prescribe treatment.
Impetigo
Impetigo can show up as yellow, golden, or brown crusts, often around the face, hands, or areas where there’s a cut or scratch. It’s a contagious bacterial infection, so getting treatment quickly is important to prevent it from spreading. If you’re unsure whether it’s impetigo or just a sore, our pharmacists can help assess your little one and offer the right treatment.
Infected insect bites
Insect bites can sometimes become infected, especially if they’re scratched – which kids tend to do. Signs of infection include redness, swelling, or pain around the bite. If your child’s symptoms last more than 2 days or worsen, it’s best to get it checked. Our pharmacists can look at the bite and recommend the best treatment.
We know how exhausting it can be caring for a new baby, and it’s perfectly normal to feel a bit run down. New mums can be more prone to infections like colds or urinary tract infections (UTIs), especially in the weeks after childbirth. While most colds will clear up on their own, it’s important to treat a UTI promptly.
Make sure you’re staying hydrated, getting rest where you can, and looking after yourself. If you think you might have a UTI, pop in and speak to one of our pharmacists. We can offer advice and prescribe medication, including antibiotics, if needed.
