Ingredients

3 slices white bread (preferably a few days old)

500g pack Asda British Lean Beef Steak Mince, (or Extra Lean)

1 garlic clove, very finely chopped

1 shallot, very finely chopped

1 large egg yolk

1 tsp Asda Dijon Mustard

2 tsp olive oil

1 tsp Worcester sauce

1 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley

4 slices mature Cheddar (or Gouda)

4 Asda Burger Buns, split in half

Lettuce leaves (or rocket)

1 large tomato, sliced (optional)

1 large gherkin, sliced (optional)

1 small red onion, finely sliced (optional)

Asda Burger Relish or Asda Tomato Ketchup or Asda Mustard Mayonnaise

Method

1
Cut the crusts off the bread, then whizz in a processor or blender to make crumbs. You’ll need 25g, so freeze any extra to use in another recipe.
2
Put the mince in a large bowl with the garlic and shallot. Put the egg yolk, mustard, olive oil and Worcester sauce into another bowl and beat together. Add to the meat along with the breadcrumbs and parsley, and season with pepper.
3
Mix together with your hands until evenly mixed. Divide into 4 and shape into balls. Flatten each ball to 2.5cm thick and put on a baking tray lined with cling film. Cover with cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
4
Brush both sides of the burgers with oil and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side on a pre-heated griddle or non-stick frying pan over a medium heat. Don’t press them down as they cook or you’ll squeeze out the juices. Once cooked, put a slice of cheese on top and grill until it starts to melt.
5
Toast the cut surface of the buns. Fill with the lettuce, burger, tomato, gherkin and onion, if using. Serve with the relish, ketchup or mustard mayonnaise.
